SMKN 5 Surabaya - School of Tomorrow

Dirjen Kementrian Pekerjaan Umum mengadakan perayaan hari tata ruang dengan mengundang beberapa sekolah. Event ini pertama kalinya diadakan sejawa bali karena sebelumnya hanya diadakan dalam lingkup sejabodetabek. Dalam event ini ada beberapa lomba yaitu lomba poster, pidato, sketsa, karya ilmiah dan jingle untuk pelajar SMA/SMK. Dalam acara puncak yang diadakan di Plaza Senayan hari Minggu, 13 November 2011, SMKN 5 Surabaya mendapatkan penghargaan Juara 3 Sekolah dengan lingkungan dan tata ruang terbaik seJawa Bali. Juara 1 SMAN 1 Probolinggo dan juara 2 SMAN Bandung. Meskipun di tengah kota yang panas, area 5 hektar ini tetap ramah lingkungan dan sangat cocok untuk kegiatan belajar mengajar. Di sepanjang jalan utama dan di bagian tengah ada pohon karet tua dan besar yang menyejukkan, sumber oksigen dan penyerapan air. Tidak salah jika SMKN 5 Surabaya mendapatkan penghargaan tersebut dalam event ini.
